San Diego One Year Anniversary Vacation

Toby and I celebrate our first year with a trip down to San Diego. We stay at the Park Manor Suites just outside hillcrest and across the street from Balboa Park.

Saturday, September 24th

After our flight arrived at noon, we went to Mission Bay and Belmont Park, where we rode the Tiant Dipper coaster.

We walked along the beach and eventually had lunch along the beach at a seaside mexican restaurant.

At 3pm we check into our nice hotel room at the Park Manor Suites in Hillcrest.

Later that afternoon we walked to Balboa park which was right across the street from the hotel.

In the evening we walked to Hillcrest and had dinner at a small 'comfort' food restaurant.

Sunday, September 25th

We head up to La Jolla and walked along the shoreline. La Jolla reminded us of Pacific Grove up north.

Toby along the La Jolla shoreline.

We get drenched by a sea wave just before the picture was taken.

We walk around the town of La Jolla to dry off. I did buy a tank top to wear later.

Black's Beach was just up the coast from La Jolla, so we head up to soak in some sun.

We hiked down an incredibly steep trail to get to the beach. We saw numerous hand gliders along the cliff edge.

Just hanging out at Black's Beach.

Later that afternoon we drive over to Point Loma and the Cabrillo National Monument.

Picture perfect views of San Diego from this vantage point.

You can see Coronado Island from this vista.

We toured the historic lighthouse at Point Loma and climbed the tower.

After Point Loma we headed downtown over to Seaport Village.

At Seaport Village we had an early dinner at the San Diego Pier Cafe. I had ahi and of course, a glass of wine.

From Seaport Village we walked along the shoreline to see the huge USS Midway aircraft carrier.

Before the sunset we drove to Coronado Island and Silver Strand Beach.

Toby looking handsome with the warm glow of the San Diego setting sun.

FWEE... we jump for joy!

Once the sun set, we drove to the Gaslamp Quarters to visit my cousin Johanna and her husband Matt.

Me and Toby at my cousin's apartment.

Johanna suggested we check out Extraordinary Desserts for a snack. We did and had some wonderful treats.

Monday, September 26th

We drive down to Tijuana and park our car at the border. we then take a bus into TJ. This was at the bus station in TJ.

We walk along the ave. to haggle with the shop people. Toby bought rugs, I bought a silver ring.

After a short stay in Mexico, we drove up to Hotel Del Coronado where we stop and have lunch.

We have ice cream and then we tour the grounds of the hotel.

Doesn't this hotel remind one of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose?

We then make a short stop at Old Town San Diego before heading back to the hotel.

Before the sun sets we visit Balboa Park across the street.

We walk by the lily pond by the Botanical building (which was closed)

We take sunset pictures of the California Tower. that evening we have dinner at Kimo Sabe in Hillcrest.

Tuesday, September 27th

Tuesday we head out early to the San Diego ZOO!

We first take the guided bus tour before heading out on foot around the Zoo. Here we are at the Koala exhibit.

we take the aerial tram to the farthest part of the park, where the polar bear plunge is located.

We get some great shots of the polar bears at play.

Smile with the polar bear.

We walk up the hill to the Giant Panda exhibit, one of the view places where you can see Giant Panda's in the US.

After lunch we see the Gorilla exhibit.

Look... I made a new friend at the zoo.

The flamingos...

A sculpture of a long lost relative?

After the zoo we walk into Balboa Park, we finally were able to enter the Botanical building.

The lily pond just outside the Botanical building.

Pictures from inside Casa Del Balboa, the headquarter building to the park.

We make a short stop into the Japanese Friendship Gardens where my cousin Johanna and Matt were married last year.

We walk into the Automotive Museum which was free that day.

... then into the Aerospace Museum...

There were some interesting sculptures throughout the park.

Before heading to the airport we have appetizers and drinks at Prado (in Casa del Balboa)

Now the trip home, from the San Diego airport, on United. At SFO we wait for Toby's parents to pick us up... FUN TRIP!
