During a casual dinner conversations before an OMD concert earlier this year, the gang discussed going on a trip to Orlando to see the new Harry Potter land at Islands of Adventure. Before you knew it, the plans were in the works and the trip soon became reality. Eight of us (Cari, Anthony, Alan, Toby, Brent, Laurie, Joy, and Mary) spent a week in Orlando visiting various theme parks: Seaworld, Legoland, Universal Studios Orlando, Islands of Adventure, Disney Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot.

Early morning on Saturday, December 3rd, we pack up the car and head up to San Mateo where we park Toby's car in his aunt's house. Brent and Laurie soon arrive and park their Jeep there as well. Gretchen then arrives and drives all of us to SFO for our Virgin America flight. At the airport we meet up with Cari and her son Anthony who were also on the same flight. Joy and Mary were arriving to Orlando on Monday. To save baggage fees Toby and I used one large suitcase, almost reaching the 50lbs weight limit. Using one bag saved us $25/per direction! Once past security we were ready to board the flight.

The flight was relatively uneventful and we arrived on time to Orlando. Although it was late the temperature was in the low 60's and a bit humid but pleasant. The sun had already set by the time we gathered our luggage and picked up our Dollar rental FBI car while Cari rented a Ford Escape. Brent, Laurie, Toby and I were staying at the same hotel by Universal Studios so we drove one car to our hotel. Cari and Anthony drove to her rental condo by Lake Buena Vista. Brent, Laurie, Toby and I booked three nights at the Point Orlando based on TripAdvisor reviews, Toby and I upgraded to a one bedroom suite on the 10th floor.

Once we were unpacked and all settled in Brent, Laurie, Toby and I went out to dinner along International Drive. We ended up eating at the expensive Charley's Steakhouse. The meal was good and the portions were large. After dinner we stopped to pick up some snacks and then we turned in early after the long day of travel. Plus we needed to wake up early the next morning for our first park.
